It’s finally happened, he asked, and she said YES!  After all the years of playing dress up and happily ever-after, the time has finally come.  It’s a time to bring all the girls closer together to share in one of the most important days of her life. But how do you help your bestie get ready for her big day? We combed the internet and added in some personal experiences to make your Maid of Honor duties a little easier!

  1. Be Available

Be mindful throughout the planning process that the Bride may change her mind hundreds of times before she decides what she REALLY wants. This is normal and as the Maid of Honor is it your job to remind her to take the planning one step at a time. This helps keep the bride from stressing while planning the big day. Helping her to stay organized is very helpful! Offer to help her in any way you can, even if you just show up with a bottle on wine!

  1. Planning the Shower and Bachelorette Party

You are not the only one in charge here, but you can help get things rolling. If the Bride is not involved in the planning of her shower, maybe sneak in a few questions as to what she might want for her shower. This makes it easier when trying to pass along the information to all others involved in planning. Don’t forget to include the Mother of the Bride as well as the Mother of the Groom in the process, and try to delegate tasks to bridesmaids so no one person gets overwhelmed.

As for the bachelorette party, this should be about having a great time and letting loose with your girls! Make sure your plans for the night are something the bride will be comfortable with.  If she is a low-key person, maybe the bar isn’t a great idea and a spa day would suit her a little better.

  1. Leading the Bride Tribe

Overseeing a group of 5 to 20 people is a dauting task whatever the circumstance but remember that this a happy occasion and you are celebrating. Your bestie is counting on you to rally the girls together, and make her wedding day extra special. Make sure you include everyone and ask for their input. In our experience the Bride is less stressed when she is surround by happy bridesmaids! Remember everyone in the bridal party was chosen for a reason, and want the best for the bride! Don’t forget to be ready to run any interference incase of issues. The Bride should never hear or deal with any issues on her wedding day. Keep everything light and flowy.

  1. Writing your Maid of Honor Speech (the hardest part!)

To write an amazing speech the inspiration must come from your relationship. Think about fun times you had together or how you met.  If you and your bestie like things more on the fun side, go with a comical theme to make everyone laugh.  If she is more of the sentimental type, write a heartfelt speech about what her friendship means to you and how happy you are for her. Don’t forget to add the groom into speech.  Paint a picture of their relationship, a story about how they met could be funny and sentimental! Try to say everything you want to say in 3-4 minutes to keep everyone interested. Plus, you don’t want to take more time away from getting the party started!
