There’s something about fall weddings at Locust Hall that already feels a little magical, but this one brought an entirely different kind of romance. Inspired by the dark, moody world of Edgar Allan Poe, this wedding blended literary details, candlelight, and deep-toned florals into a celebration that felt both dramatic and incredibly intimate. Every detail told a story, from stacks of vintage books to rich blooms in shades of mauve, burgundy, and cream.

Personal Flowers with a Moody Romance

The personal flowers perfectly set the tone for the day. The bouquets featured layered florals in deep mauve and burgundy tones with soft hints of cream woven throughout for contrast and texture. Designed with movement and depth, they felt romantic and slightly untamed in the best way. Coordinating boutonnieres tied everything together beautifully and complemented the overall moody fall palette.

An Outdoor Ceremony Surrounded by Fall Beauty

The couple exchanged vows outdoors beneath the venue’s arch, where we designed a floral corner swag overflowing with seasonal blooms and textural foliage. The arrangement added just the right amount of drama while still allowing the natural beauty of the grounds to shine through. Between the crisp fall air, changing leaves, and candle-inspired color palette, the ceremony felt straight out of a gothic romance novel.

Reception Details that Told a Story

The reception space was filled with thoughtful literary-inspired details and small floral moments tucked throughout every corner. Guest tables featured stacked books accented with candles and delicate bud vases filled with fresh blooms, creating an atmosphere that felt warm, collected, and romantic.

One of the most unique details of the evening was the seating chart display—an antique card catalog adorned with florals tucked between the drawers. It was the perfect nod to the couple’s love of literature and added so much personality to the space.

Their sweetheart table was designed using flowers repurposed from the ceremony arch, giving those statement blooms a second life during the reception. Nearby, soft groupings of fresh flowers accented the cake, tying the entire design together without overpowering the space.

We absolutely love working at Johnson’s Locust Hall Farm, especially during the fall season. The property has such a timeless, historic feel, and once the autumn colors settle in, the entire venue becomes incredibly atmospheric and romantic. It’s the perfect backdrop for weddings with personality and storytelling woven into every detail, and this Poe-inspired celebration fit the space beautifully.
